My Garden
This garden was a completely blank canvas. The house sat starkly in a one acre field of heavy clay which waterlogs in the winter and dries to the consistency of concrete in the summer. The design has introduced structural planting around the house and divided the plot into different rooms.
We have created two large herbaceous borders around a main lawn and have also planted an orchard which produces sensational blossom in the spring and barrow loads of fruit in the autumn. We have allowed some areas of long grass to establish to encourage wildlife, and filled many of the borders with roses which love our difficult soil.
"The lesson I have thoroughly learnt, and wish to pass on to others, is to know the enduring happiness that the love of a garden gives."
— Gertrude Jekyll
